100 Years of Scouting

This year marks the 100th anniversary of scouting.

Treading the dusty boards for the first time, Scouts, Explorers and a Cub from Hadleigh Sea Scouts Group produced a unique contribution to Scouting’s Centenary. The 100 Years of Scouting Show at the end of June played to packed houses and told the history of the movement through story, sketch and song.

The Health and Safety Brothers - Ron and Vernon - illustrated key Scouting activities including knot tying and asking the County Commissioner and the District Commissioner to help with tent pitching (both slightly flummoxed by the particular tent on offer!)

Baden-Powell and Warner Goodyear gave an insight into life during the 217 day Mafeking siege. Gilwell’s Archivist - Paul Moynihan - attesting to the verisimilitude (see Dictionary) of the recreation!

Our Little Scouting Britain sketch - with a young Lou and Andy attending their first Scout Camp - produced first class impressions.

We recreated one of B-P’s famous lectures on Scouting for Boys

We did traditional 'gang-show' things like cross-dressing ...

... Show numbers ...

... and, of course, finished on the Crest of a Wave
The show was a fabulous learning opportunity - bringing alive for cast and audience (over 150!) the traditions and values of Scouting developed over the 100 years. The bug has clearly bitten, with potentially many stars in the making - and Hadleigh Sea Scouts are now contemplating developing a Stage Section.
