2008 Scout Summer Camp - Kandersteg

This year has been very special as its Scouting`s Centenary and the many things that has brought. We have been very proud that four of our young people have represented the group at the Jamboree carrying at tradition with our group going back many years.

We have for some time wanted to give ALL our members the opportunity to gain what those four gained at the Jamboree by opening up the `International Experience` by meeting and doing activities with Scouts from other counties.

Following the horrors of the First World War, countless scouts being killed and maimed from many counties, Lord Baden Powell was determined to bring about international understanding and raised money for the first International Scout Camp Site. This was opened at Kandersteg in Switzerland in 1922.

Every year thousands of scouts visit Kandersteg both winter and summer, turning the site into a MINI-JAMBOREE every week.

Our plan is to lead a expedition of Scouts and Explorer Scouts to Switzerland next Summer. We would travel by coach by a leading operator who will also arrange for all our camping equipment on the site for during our stay.

- A cable car /and toboggan trip
- Swimming
- Overnight hike staying in a mountain hut
- International BBQ`s
- International competitions
- A Swiss Culture Night
- A International Camp Fire
- A exciting 18 mile river trip in large one person inflatable ring

We are planning our stay at Kandersteg so it includes the 1st August when Switzerland celebrates its National Day. at KISC August 1st is also a day of celebration. We begin the day with breakfast on the campsite for all our guests to start the day off with a feeling of international friendship.

During the morning there are numerous activities taking place around the Centre, the campsite, and the village including:

- Mini Golf
- Football
- Swimming
- Earth Ball
- Ultimate Frisbee
- Volleyball
- Village Museum
- Pioneering
- Multicrafts
- Abseiling

The afternoon sees the sports field on the campsite turn into an International Carnival with displays from various nations, and carnival games and activities for everyone to join in. Why not take this opportunity to show everyone a little bit of what is special from your part of the world? Whether it is specialty food or drink samples or a traditional game or song from your own country, this is a great opportunity to share a little bit of international friendship with fellow Scouts. The carnival is followed by a BBQ dinner for all.

The international spirit continues through the evening with a short ceremony on the sports field, and then a parade through the village to join the Kandersteg villagers in their National Day celebrations.

International Friendship Award. Its possible for us to gain award during our stay.
